Who are you Mr. Lacour?
.
My name is Landry Lacour and I’m a French native from Provence. One year and a half I left Paris for Bruxelles after living 15 years in Montmartre. A big part of my life I have been involved  in management and in French gastronomy and 3 years ago I started  plaing with colors on the leather of my shoes.  It is needless to say that soon  I jumped  into the shoeworld…

Who are your clients and what is their motivation in changing the face of their shoes?
.
I’m my first client; if I can’t wear my work how can my clients wear it? My clients are mostly  shoe enthusiasts,  shoemakers, shops or personal shoppers.  Shoes enthusiasts want unique elements of design that you cannot find  on branded shoes. These days even if big names like Berluti or Corthay create very nice patinas they still have to do large number of patinas in a short period of time so the models are still reproducible beeing far from unique.  As I work without the presure of time and without the sales figures on my mind  I manage to  create patinas that you cannot find on other one’s shoes.  This freedom makes me atractive also for shops who are seeking  to upgrade their custom programs and for bespoke shoemakers who want something really exclusive to mach their work of art .

Patina process takes time if you want to do it in the the best way possible  as  leather is a material that is still “alive”. The less you will hurt it and the more you will respect it the better it will be. The best way  is to work on a raw color leather so you won’t have to remove the prevoius color with acetone or other products that will harm the leather. Of course the tanning process of the leather will tell you more about what is possible to do.  In patina there are 3 steps  after  a good cleaning. The first step is the  dying process. This stage allows you to express your personality. This traditional process involves  the use of  brushes, pieces of old cloths  or sponges without  using airbrushes…

.
The second step involves feedind the  leather with some shoecream as dye usually dries  the leather. Once again you have to play with colors  mix them and find the right shade.   Giving leather time to rest  between each step is also very important.
.
The final step is the Glaçage”  or waxing process/ millitary shine ( water + wax shoes polish + old cloth ). It will reveal the true definitive color and will also give the depth of patina. I insist only on the toe and on the back of the shoe because waxing the whole shoe will accentuate the marks of wearing and reduce the life of your shoes.

On your Facebook page we seen all kind of patinas. Knowing the fact that every patina is different from the  preceding is there any patina that you could name Landry Lacour best work ever?
.
I’m enjoying what I am doing and  I hope people see that in my work . This job is like a game to me. I’m obstinate and perfectionist. I am always  searching in finding new technics. It is like a game, I’m always trying  to go further. I  see the flows of  my work and  that allow me to progress further and further…

And the biggest failure in term of patina was…
.
… when I was young and unexperieced. Nevertheless those faliures were very useful as I prefer to learn from my mistakes.

Leather could make a difference in patina process?
.
As I say to my students in the first lesson the process of tanning the leather is very important. You must know the method used for taning the leather in order to chose the apropriate patina process.  If we are taking about chrome tanned leather I must say that it is the most easy leather to work with. It allow the patinist to replace the patina in case of failure but I must say that  this proces does not always give the best results in term of deep color patina. Working with veg tanned leather  is very rewarding but you must remeber that if the tanning process was very long it is almost imposibile to remove the patine in case of faliure.

Marcus Aurelius thought that “The soul becomes dyed with the color of its thoughts“. Could it be the wearer thought dyed with the color of the shoes?
.
Certainly, instinctively we can suspect that colors and humors have a link: we have more pleasure to live in a colored room than between four grey walls! We also know that certain wavelengths of the sunlight have clearly an effect on our morale, that is why sessions of photothérapy are indicated to fight against the seasonal depression. Colors are only bright waves in particular wavelengths. Moreover certain studies seem to have found a link between colors and state of mind . In my opinion color makes you happy so is best to try it !

Last but not least I need a piece of advice from a Gentleman working with shoe creams polish and color. How can we get rid of the layers old polish build up on our shoes in order to let the leather breath and be ready for a new polish?
.
Use turpentine (with a clean cloth).  It’s the best cream&shoe polish  remover. It won’t hurt the leather and will clean it deeply. First it will darken the shoe but don’t be affraid  just wait  until it will dry completly.  Then you will be ready to cream and polish your shoes!
